Margreta “Margie” Swanson has been a Financial Advisor here in Charlottesville for over 25 years.
After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with an Ed.S in Educational Psychology, Margie worked as a School Psychologist in a Kansas cooperative school system for four years. Margie soon realized her passion moved toward the intricate world of investing infused with the belief that through education, she could raise her clients’ knowledge base making them better informed consumers, just as she had done for herself.
Margie began her financial career with Offerman and Company; a small Minneapolis based Investment Company that was later merged with HD Vest in 2002. Margie joined Securities America in 2003 seeking a company that offered a broad range of diversified services to help her clients meet their financial and retirement goals. Margie specializes in working with “women in transition,” and the men who love them. Margie receives great satisfaction working with women navigating significant change in their lives (retirement, divorce or becoming a widow). A successful collaboration helps them gain confidence and adapt to their evolving circumstances.
Margie is a longtime member of the Master Elite IRA Advisor Group with Ed Slott (www.irahelp.com) a national association which trains Advisors on changes within the complex retirement arena and allows Members access to highly trained Professionals who give expert advice on complicated, multifaceted IRA and 401K issues. Margie is adamant in her belief that Women must focus on securing their own retirement and not leave essential decision making to partners or family.
Married for 31 years to the love of her life, David, Margie and David have four cats living at home with them. Her passion for animals even extends to her office where our Staffs’ rescue dog, Sadie joins the team each day. Sadie has become our official greeter and brings a smile to all who enter her domain in the Maclin building on East Market Street.
Margie is a graduate from the Leadership Charlottesville, Class of 2010 and is a corporate member of Women United in Philanthropy. She has been on the Executive Board of Charlottesville Habitat for Humanity and the FOCUS Women’s Resource Center and believes in giving back to the community that has been so supportive of her business.
